What is Ubuntu

Ubuntu is a humanist philosophy, a social ethic, an altruistic ideology, a unifying vision that emphasises the importance of community, solidarity, caring, sharing, harmony, hospitality, respect and responsiveness. Ubuntu recognizes the genuine otherness of all people, the diversity of languages, the life stories of the individuals and the history of the collective. Ubuntu tells us that our true human potential can only be realized when we are interconnected with others. A person is a person because of their relationship with other persons. No one is an island, we could not live in isolation. We live in a community and that sense of community makes us what we are. We are tied to others in many ways: we share our success and we share our pain. As individuals, we can’t separate our humanity from the humanity of those around us.
